The 2009 Florida Bar Convention took place last week in Orlando.  The Institute for Mindfulness Studies both exhibited and presented. The presentation, Mindfulness and Neuroscience: Enhancing Stress Reduction and Lawyer Effectiveness was well received by a packed room.  Scott Rogers conducted an interactive presentation on Mindfulness, based on Jurisight the mindfulness-based program developed for lawyers.

The program included never before seen mindfulness demonstrations with Judge Alan Gold (S.D. Fla), Professor Len Riskin (U.F. Law) and George Knox (Knox Seaton) who offered participants a stimulating glimpse into both the reactive and the mindful mind of the lawyer. In a segment entitled “Split in the Circuits,” these threee masters of the law enacted different circuits of the brain as they duked out “The Trolley” a famous though philosophical puzzle. In a second segment, titled “The Mindful Lawyer and Reactive Brain,” they shared personal stories as they discussed the role of  mindful awareness during times of challenge.
